One-stop IT solutions

At Carness we help care home owners and managers who feel let down by their IT. We help their teams do their jobs better – whether that’s managing real time updates or carrying out other essential tasks. We also help their residents with things like stress-free film streaming and staying in touch with their loved ones. Our cost effective, jargon-free solutions mean they feel supported rather than frustrated by their IT investment.

We’re also remote hands for IT companies who’re located (typically) down south and can’t justify a full-time Scottish presence. We represent them locally, get their work done and extend their reach by looking after their clients with the same care and attention we extend to our own.

In addition, we help companies who have a mix of legacy and essential IT but no roadmap to work out what they need to keep and what they can safely get rid of. We audit, map out, clear and clean IT cabinets to create order from chaos.

We also do lots of other IT ‘stuff’ that our clients either can’t do, don’t want to do or shouldn’t be doing themselves.

If you’re facing an IT ‘situation’ and need help, reach out. We’d love to hear from you.

Helping care homes IT

IT for Care Homes

In the complex world of care homes, where every detail counts towards the well-being of both residents and staff, the need for, and the role of technology cannot be overstated. As an experienced IT specialist, I’ve had the privilege of delivering several projects, where empathy and efficiency create a seamless IT solution.

Helping IT companies

As an IT company, when you’re considering outsourcing work to a partner, you need to be sure you’re going to get discretion, reliability, expertise, and efficiency to ensure projects are completed to the highest standard possible. Carness stands out as the chosen partner for certain UK IT companies.

Cleaning up IT cabinets

Clean & Tidy IT Cabinets

In the fast-paced world of technology, a well-organised IT cabinet is essential for the smooth operation of any business. Over time, though, many IT cabinets become cluttered and disorganised, leaving businesses at risk for network issues and inefficiencies.

IT Support Services

Business centre IT support

Business centres, whether they’re fully managed or flexible workspaces, rely on a seamless IT infrastructure to attract and retain tenants. However, IT setup and support are often overlooked, leading to connectivity issues, unmanaged network setups, and frustrated tenants.
Data Cabling Services

Data cabling

From new builds to refurbished office spaces, data cabling is often an afterthought. Businesses invest heavily in creating visually appealing environments, ensuring sleek reception areas and modern workspaces. However, when it comes to essential connectivity infrastructure, many buildings fall short.

What our clients think

Five stars
Running a care home is about making sure residents are happy and comfortable, and that the staff have the tools they need to do their jobs well and efficiently. Our previous owners, were a corporate care company, who due to their financial constraints, we felt, dismissed the concerns raised about the IT services we were receiving and we ended up with an IT system not fit for purpose. We transferred to new owners recently, who listened and realised that the systems we had weren’t suitable to provide the level of care and support required now and in the future. Our previous owners never really invested in the infrastructure, meaning we were unaware of the importance of good connectivity for both staff and residents, due to the fact we had not experienced this. Over the years residents became frustrated when they couldn’t stream films or communicate the way they wanted to with loved ones using video calls, but we were unable to offer a solution. This was especially brought to light when the pandemic hit. Staff were also struggling to get the connectivity they needed to work with the efficient real time systems we’d put in place and could only get internet in certain areas, with slow and unreliable equipment. Fortunately, when the new owners took us over, we started looking at improvements that could be made and Scott was recommended by another Care Home company. With Scott on board, we are now happy to say that all our IT boxes are ticked, in both network coverage, a reliable supported system and of course, with a smile.

KNL are a regional company based in the North West of England, we service many national clients who extend beyond a reasonable site response time but still request us to support them. To answer this we needed a reliable solution with remote hands on demand for support and installation. We were introduced to Scott in 2013 and found him a good local fit in terms of IT knowledge and customer facing experience when on-site. Working with our in-house support team, he resolved issues very quickly and acted as one of our team with the same high value of service delivery and professionalism. We look forward to many more years working with Scott in delivering IT support in Scotland.

We own a large multi-tenant business centre close to Glasgow Airport, with 8 comms rooms that are spread over different floors and different sides of the building. All our tenants have different IT needs and over the years, tenants come and go. This leads to a lot of legacy IT ‘kit’ that’s ticking away in the background, burning power and serving no one. Tidying this up seemed like a mammoth task until we got Scott on board. He did a full needs analysis and IT audit; identified the kit that was redundant and then set about removing the old stuff and leaving every comms room clean, tidy and efficient. Not only does this remove redundant IT kit, but it also makes the task of support much easier. We now have a full list of connection information which means questions raised by companies moving in are easily answered. Maintaining the cabinets tidy and legacy-kit-free helps us both now and in the future.

The Alba Innovation Centre is a successful and busy business centre for a diverse range of start-up and scale-up businesses.  The centre provides the right infrastructure, comfortable workspace and environment for businesses to excel.  We’re not IT experts and don’t claim to be.  That said, one of the things all our clients have in common is their requirement for IT support.  This is where Scott comes in.  We’ve worked with Scott for 15 years and have got to really know and trust him.  So, when we get a new tenant, we introduce them to Scott so he can make sure they get the IT infrastructure and support they need to succeed, which reduces our need for an IT member of staff and the tenants need for their own IT company. They also manage our network to provide a reliable, cost-effective system that supports a multi tenancy building with low running costs. He also works with the larger companies that have their own IT and allows a seamless and hassle-free transition to their new premises.

We have employed Carness in the design and installation of voice and data cabling projects for our care home clients over the last 8 years. This includes numerous network and WiFi installations and a recent large CCTV installation in Northumberland. We brief Scott with the requirements. He visits the site with his team, tweaks the design and provides us with an excellent solution, within budget and timescale whilst working in a busy and, often sensitive, environment.

We have used Carness for all our recent major cabling projects. Once handover is complete, we simply walk in and install the hardware knowing that everything will be as expected, if not better. They travel to wherever the work is required and, along with providing a business class setup, he works well with the staff onsite and provides a seamless experience. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Scott and his team for a first-class cabling installation.
